Rhian is originally from the beautiful Okanagan Valley in British Colombia, but has lived in many parts of Canada and the world, including Ontario, Nova Scotia, Cuba, and West Africa. She holds a first class honours degree in International Development Studies and Spanish from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her honours research thesis focused on Colombia’s internal displacement crisis and the impact this has had on children and youth. Other research interests have focused on child soldiers, migration and gender justice. Rhian has worked with various NGOs in Canada, including Canada World Youth, Oxfam, Amnesty International and most recently as an intern with the Roméo Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative. She is thrilled to be working with the Campaña Colombiana Contra Minas in Medellín, Colombia for her YPIMAP placement.
